The City of Calgary
The regional recreation centre model was developed by The City of Calgary about 10 years ago as a creative and innovative approach to meeting the recreation needs of the city's rapidly growing suburban communities. In this partnership, The City provides the land and the majority of capital resources needed to build the facility, while the community assumes full responsibility for opening expenses, equipping the facility, developing the programs, and providing for future sustainability and lifecycle expenses.
The City has provided $ 28.75 million in capital funding to build the facility. Construction began in April 2003 and was completed in September 2004. Following NCSRA's possession of the building, The City's involvement comes to a close and the NCSRA assumes full operating responsibility.
